There seems to be a new *hot* London app every week. I should know – half my phones memory is dedicated to London apps, but most of the time I end up forgetting about them after a few weeks. Just as I convinced myself that they weren’t worth my time any more I was introduced to The Entertainer App, and this one is definitely a keeper!
What is The Entertainer App?
The Entertainer is a buy 1 get 1 free app that gives you exclusive discounts for thousands of restaurants, bars, attractions, hotels, leisure activities and even stylists across 25 worldwide destinations. The app has been available across several Asian and Middle Eastern cities for years, but this January the app expanded to include hundreds of London destinations. Imagine buy 1 get 1 free for main meals in top restaurants, the most popular tourist attractions like The Tower of London and Kew Gardens, two for 1 cocktails in the trendiest bars, 1 free night at a hotel for every night purchased, it all seems too good to be true right!?
I should point out now that you do have to invest £40 to get access to these deals. Now I’m the first person to question the value of spending £40 on an app, but trust me when I say that this is a very small investment for what you get in return, particularly if you live in London or are likely to spend more than a few days here.
I’ll feely admit that it was a staff member of The Entertainer that contacted me, before this I didn’t know anything about the app and I was a bit sceptical at first. They explained to me that they had only just started their London venture but they have been going strong elsewhere in the world for many years now. Anyway, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and agreed to try their app, thinking that there would be a hidden catch somewhere.
What do you get?
For £40 you get access to 900 offers, with more being added all the time. In their marketing literature The Entertainer claims that you could save more than £40 in single use of the app, I think that’s stretching it a bit but it’s not far off the truth! I used the app for the first time in Joes southern Kitchen and got a main meal for free out of the two purchased, that saved me £18, I then got buy 1 get 1 free tickets to The Tower of London which saved me £23. So after using the Entertainer London app twice I’ve already saved more than its £40 cost and I still have a whole year to keep using it. If there is a hidden catch to these deals I haven’t found it yet!
How do you us the app?
So how do you use the London Entertainer App? Firstly you need to download it from the App store or Google Play store depending on which phone you have. It’s free to download the app and see the deals they have available. If you decide you want to purchase the London deals package then go back to the home screen, tap buy then select the London option. Once you’ve input your payment details all the London deals will be unlocked!
The deals in the app are split into categories; you can browse a category or search for a specific place and see what deals they have available. When you select a deal that interests you the app provides you with its location, contact details, a brief summary and its trip advisor rating.
To use the app you’ll first need to set up a pin number that you input when you want to redeem an offer, this is so no one else can use your deals other than you. When you’ve found a deal you want to use, say at a restaurant, just go there and do everything you otherwise would, when the bill comes just show your waiter the app and say you’d like to use the discount. Tap on the discount and input your pin code, the app will then require the restaurants unique pin code as well, just hand your phone over the member of staff serving you and they’ll know what to do. You’ll see the discounts taken off your bill at the end.
This is the exact process that I used and it was simple and painless. The same process applies when buying tickets at an attraction or going to a stylist; show your app at the point of payment and the staff will know what to do.
Is it for you?
Who would this app be best for? To state the obvious, couples would benefit from this hugely – basically halving the price of two main meals in hundreds of restaurants. Families could also find that the Entertainer App saves them money; if two adults with two children each have the app on their phone then they can get kid’s tickets for every attraction listed on the app for free! I’ll leave it up to you to decide if the app is worth it for you; I guess it depends how often you go out and do things in London.
The Entertainer looks like it could be the Amazon Prime of the London app market. For an initial investment you get so much more out of it, not only the 900 deals available but a wealth of information on what’s available to do in London. The Entertainer will be taking pride of place in my ‘London’ app folder on my phones home screen, along with The tube map app and Uber, what more could I need?
